Target/EffectionGALLS can substitute for VirE2 in strains of Agrobacterium rhizogenes that lack virE2. GALLS can be made in two forms: GALLS-FL (full-length) and GALLS-CT (C-terminal). On some hosts, both GALLS proteins were required to substitute for VirE2. GALLS-FL localizes to the nucleus, while GALLS-CT remains cytoplasmic. GALLS-FL also interacts with IMPa-4 and with VirD2. So GALLS may aid in stabilization and/or nuclear import of VirD2/T-strand complexes. (Hodges, et al. 2004; Hodges, et al. 2006; Hodges, et al. 2009; Gelvin, 2012)
